Schilling eyes Cubs or Rays

Curt Schilling | Red Sox

Free agent pitcher Curt Schilling told the Orlando Sentinel that he would consider a comeback with a championship-caliber team like the Rays or the Cubs. "Absolutely I'll come back," the 42-year-old said at Disney World, where he was appearing in ESPN The Weekend activities. Schilling led the expansion Diamondbacks to a World Series title in 2001. Three years later he helped Boston break an 86-year championship drought. He got his third championship ring in 2007 with the Red Sox. He underwent shoulder surgery last June and filed for free agency at the end of the season. "The challenge would be in a place like Tampa Bay or Chicago," Schilling said. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry didn't rule out the possibility when told Saturday that Schilling said he'd consider pitching for Chicago. "We'll always keep our eye on anybody who might help us," Hendry told the Chicago Sun-Times. "I have a lot of respect for him. He's a great big-game pitcher. But I didn't know a thing about it till [reporters] told me."
